Jacqueline Tiepermann has, since an early age, led an extraordinarily inventive and creative life, screen printing at the age of fourteen for the renowned Sydney designer, Florence Broadhurst. Not surprisingly, she went on to study art at East Sydney College in the 1970s, establishing a successful businesses in the fashion industry soon after.

Tiepermann found herself returning to the studio in the late 1980’s, producing works for commission and participating in several group exhibitions. One of her patrons and ardent admirers is Harry Triguboff AO, who reportedly owns eight of her works. It is with great pride that Brightspace is presenting her first solo exhibition, Viaggio to be opened by Harry Triguboff himself.

Viaggio is the journey of her own extraordinary life. In a prior genre she used coded patterns and lyrical forms, often with references to poetry or philosophy – the works in this exhibition reveal the development of her own sophisticated, private language and recording of her stories.

Using a palette that shifts from powerful, vibrant colour to soft pastel hues, expressive movements of paint shift vertically and horizontally across the canvas. Tiepermann's new works represent a variety of narrative using water as dialogue, inviting the viewer to draw upon their own history to interpret each painting. Tiepermann explains "Water represents life; it heals both physically & spiritually. Water is an intensely personal experience."

For Tiepermann, it is the journey of life that is important, not its end:
"If you are going to accomplish your mission in this world, you must know it's not about where you are going, but about the changes you go through in order to get there."  As the works in this exhibition express and explore this to the full, we can only begin to sense the fullness of her life and her person.

But there is something more…

Perhaps this is because: “Creating this body of work has been life altering” – an accomplishment that is not only priceless but incredibly worth viewing.
