“Water represents life; it heals both physically & spiritually. Water is an intensely subjective experience. This body of work could not be more personal.”
Jacqueline Tiepermann reflects on a life spanning sixdecades, recounting a random series of experiences and emotional journeys. Born and raised in a city famous for its harbour, its influences within her works are evident in her series of abstract paintings titled Viaggio. She uses water as dialogue to represent some profound events that have occurred along her journey.
Tiepermann’s large-scale paintings excite our visual senses, drawing us in with her application of exhilarating colours and textures. On closer inspection we become aware of how carefully considered these layers of colours are placed. Various textures are described by her to depict the “winds of change” these, combined with other formal elements produce highly coded symbols, built according to her internal logic.
Spiritual human figures or elements of nature seem to emerge like phoenixes from the flames, as if to divulge innermost secrets.
It is not Tiepermann’s intention for us to be privy to her own private world, but rather for the viewer to be emotionally stirred
and engaged.
Tiepermann is a story teller reflecting on life. In a world that is fast paced, she encourages the viewer through her works to decelerate, immerse, examine and reflect on one’s own history.
“If you are going to accomplish your mission in this world, you must know it’s not about where you are going, but about the changes you go through in order to get there. Creating this body of work has been a life altering experience.”
